Fibromuscular dysplasia (FMD) is a vascular disorder characterized by abnormal growth of the cells in the artery walls, leading to stenosis, aneurysms, or dissection. This condition predominantly affects women, particularly those under the age of 50.

The reason why females under 50 are most commonly affected has been established through epidemiological studies showing a clear gender predisposition. Women in this age group appear to be at a significantly increased risk for developing the condition compared to men and older adults.
